Library at Cedar Creek Lake

The Library at Cedar Creek Lake is an independent non-profit 501c3 library serving a population of 30,567 in Henderson County.  Library services are also provided to the people in the city of Kemp in Kaufman County.  The Library is located on the west side of Cedar Creek Reservoir in the city of Seven Points, TX..

The history of The Library at Cedar Creek extends back to the mid-1970s when Henderson County responded to persistent requests from the "west end" of the county for a library.  It was run solely by volunteers for over 20 years, until it was released by Henderson County on November 4, 1996 to a newly formed 501c3 corporation named the Cedar Creek Library.

In July 1997, the Seven Points Economic Development Corporation proposed building a new library and community meeting center.  Land was donated in a prime location in Seven Points on Highway 334, the lake's major east-west thoroughfare.  The importance of education, cultural enrichment, and access to a professional information resource center for the community and local businesses was paramount in the minds of community leaders.  The Seven Points EDC and the library board entered into an agreement in which the EDC would build a 6,800 square foot building on the land and provide adjacent land for code-mandated 38 vehicle parking and lease the facility for a library.  Groundbreaking took place in April 1999.

To open the facility, the Library Board obtained grants from the Meadows Foundation, TIF, Tocker Foundation, Gates Foundation, and the Northeast Texas Library System.
